Portland is a very dynamic real estate market that is currently characterized as a strong seller’s market. The amount of buyers looking for homes far outweighs the amount of homes being sold, so it is critical to have a experienced agents and a team of excellent Realtors working on your behalf! I have roughly 9 years in real estate and our team of five licensed agents - who collectively work on your behalf - has roughly 40 years of direct real estate experience!
The home stock in Portland is wide ranging in style and types.
Condos and townhomes are found throughout the area, but are in highest density in the downtown areas such as the Pearl District and the Southwest Waterfront, for example.
Single family homes and multi-unit building are also found throughout the metro region, but single family homes, in particular, are found at a much higher rate outside of the downtown area.
Portland was built out primarily in the early 1900's and into the mid-century, with infill still happening to this day. Popular home styles range from the famous and popular Portland Foursquare, bungalows, mid-century ranches, and craftsman homes, among others. You're more likely to find the early 1900's home styles the closer you are to downtown based on when the homes were built, whereas the relatively newer styles are typically built further out from downtown.
Portland itself is divided up into 4 quadrants, though that's frankly a bit of a misnomer, as it doesn't take into account the 5th "quadrant" of North Portland. It is surrounded by many beautiful suburbs as well, with some of the better known ones being Beaverton, Milwaukie, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Oregon City, Happy Valley and Gresham.
Each neighborhood is distinct and offers different advantages and challenges. It's one of the things that I find so great about Portland - there is so much diversity in lifestyle and culture and nature in each area, so you can really choose whatever it is that really makes you happiest! More land, more walkability, more hills, more trees, more culture, - each area has its distinct style! We love touring with clients through the various neighborhoods to help them identify which one(s) is the best fit for them!
I cover the Portland real estate market extensively in my blog as well, so please head over there if you'd like to learn even more about Portland, the housing market, special loan and financing programs, and much more!
